I
went on a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church in
Foxfield near Parker, Colorado.
The
church is huge. It is one of the 8 pilgrimage sites for the 2013 Year of Faith in the Denver Archdiocese.
My Year of Faith
Pilgrimage Passport told me to find animals on the baptism font, but I
couldn't find any. So, I went up stairs to the office and met
the rector/assistant pastor. He took me
down and into the church to find 8 small sea creatures at the very bottom of
the font. He then gave me a tour of the
church and its architecture. It is
modeled on a church in Milan, Italy that he showed me in a picture. This church is 10 years old and about to open
a school. He said that is gets full to
overflowing every weekend. I said that
this looked more like a cathedral, and he said it is bigger than many
cathedrals in Europe. I also told him
that I liked the flags and the banners flying outside and that my church should
do that. The
rector then gave me some information brochures and a pilgrimage prayer guide
before headed back upstairs. That was very kind of him to take the time to show me around this beautiful church.
On the way out, I met the pastor who was also very friendly.
