As you know, St. Germain
(Germanus) was a Benedictine monk who became the bishop of France in 555
A.D. He stamped out pagan practices, promoted peace, and led an austere
life. To celebrate his feast day today, we recommend:
Go to mass at St. Germain’s
Church in the St. Germain-des-Pres area of Paris.
Buy a bottle of St. Germain
liqueur made from elderflowers which are handpicked from the Alps and
transported down to the distillery by bicycle. The elderflowers are in
bloom for only 4 to 6 weeks in the spring and must be quickly harvested to obtain
that complex drink with hints of passion fruit, peach, pear, and grapefruit.
Drink a St. Germain Cocktail
or St. Germain Martini made with St. Germain liqueur.
Drink one of the ales from
the brewery St. Germain in Aix-Noulette, France.
