Give me that old time religion

Why is she crying?

Watch this scene from Christmas Holiday, a 1944 Universal Pictures film starring Deanna Durbin.

In this Solemn High Mass scene, we are treated to snippets from a real Midnight Mass celebrated at the former Cathedral of Saint Vibiana, the mother church cathedral parish of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles built in 1876.  Sadly, the cathedral has since been taken over by the city and is now used as event space.

Deanna Durbin is not crying because she is bored with this long Mass in Latin.   She is crying because she is a bad girl who is sorry for her sinful ways and seeks to change her life.   But does she?  You will have to watch the movie if you can find it on Netflix.
