What We're Singing This Week

Music For the 9 Days (novena) Leading to Pentacost Sunday

"Come Holy Ghost Creator Blest". Music is by Fr. Louis Lambillotte (1796-1855) a Jesuit composer and palaeographer of church music. "Come, Holy Ghost,Creator Blest", is from the Latin text "Veni, Creator Spiritus" attributed to Rabanus Maurus (776-856).  It is sung for Pentecost, Confirmation, or any time we call on the Holy Spirit.

Veni Creator Spiritus by Giovanni Vianini:

Veni, Creator Spiritus,
mentes tuorum visita,
imple superna gratia
quae tu creasti pectora.

Qui diceris Paraclitus,
altissima donum Dei,
fons vivus, ignis, caritas,
et spiritalis unctio.

Come Holy Ghost
and

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest,
and in our hearts take up Thy rest;
come with Thy grace and heav'nly aid,
To fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

O Comforter, to Thee we cry,
Thou heav'nly gift of God most high,
Thou Fount of life, and Fire of love,
and sweet anointing from above
