About Colorado

Just for fun:

1- "Beulah red" is the name of the red marble that gives the Colorado
State Capitol its distinctive splendor.  All of the "Beulah red" marble
in the world went into the Capitol, it cannot be replaced, at any
price..... (It was found near the town of Beulah, CO)

2- Colorado is the only state in history to turn down the Olympics.

3- The world's largest flat-top mountain is in Grand Mesa (near Grand
Junction, CO)

4- Denver lays claim to the invention of the cheeseburger.  The
trademark for the name cheeseburger was awarded in 1935 to Louis Ballast.

5- The United States federal government owns more than 1/3 of the land
in Colorado.

6- Colorado contains 75% of the land in the US with an altitude over
10,000 feet.

7- Colfax Avenue in Denver is the longest continuous street in America.

8- The Dwight Eisenhower Memorial Tunnel between Clear Creek & Summit
counties is the highest auto tunnel in the world.

9- Leadville is the highest incorporated city in the United States at
10,430 feet elevation.

10- Fountain has the distinction of being the United States millennium
city because it best symbolizes the overall composition of America.

11- Dove Creek is the "Pinto Bean" capitol of the world.

12- The tallest sand dune in America is in Great Sand Dunes National
Monument outside of Alamosa.

13- The World's First Rodeo was held on July 4th, 1869 in Deer Trail.

14- Colorado has the highest mean altitude of all the states.

15- Mesa Verde features an elaborate four-story city carved in the
cliffs by the Ancestral Pueblo people between 600 and 1300 A. D.

16- Colorado has more micro breweries per capita than any other state.

17-The Kit Carson County Carousel in Burlington dates back to 1905,
making it the oldest wooden merry-go-round in the United States.  It is
the only wooden carousel in America still with its original paint.

18-Colorado is the only U.S. state that lies entirely about 3, 281 feet
in elevation.  The point where the Arikaree River flows out of Yuma
County, Colorado, and into Cheyenne County, Kansas, is the lowest point
in Colorado at 3,317 feet elevation.

19- Despite its mountainous terrain, Colorado is relatively quiescent
seismically.   The U.S. National Earthquake Information Center is
located in Golden.

20- Boulder (the greater Republic of) has more Master Sommeliers per capita than any other city,
including San Francisco and New York.

Also, Colorado has the only Canyon in the world with water coming out each end.  Unaweep Canyon.
