June 11: Drink A Sidecar

June 11:  Feast of St. Barnabas

Barnabas was a Jew from the island of Cyprus who knew the apostles and was one of the first converts to Christianity.  He was the guy who introduced the thunder-struck St. Paul to St. Peter and the rest of the gang (apostles).

Barnabas traveled with St. Paul to convert the gentiles and was the guy who took St. Mark under his wing after St. Paul became irritated with Mark for deserting them on their first trip.

Barnabas later returned to his home of Cyprus where he was martyred.

Barnabas has been called the patron saint of sidekicks.   So, we should honor him today with the Sidecar cocktail:
1 ½ oz. brandy
½ oz. triple sec
½ oz. lemon juice
Pour all into shaker filled with ice and shake 40 times.  Strain into cocktail glass.
