Congress Scrambles To Exempt Itself From Obamacare

Damn hypocrites . . .

In a story that should surprise no one, but outrage everyone, we learn that Congress is holding secret high-level talks to exempt lawmakers and their aides from ObamaCare. That's right: the people who inflicted this "train wreck" on America (as retiring Democrat senator and ObamaCare author Max Baucus put it) are trying to bail out as everything comes off the rails.

Lawmakers are said to be "concerned about the hit to their own wallets." That's nice. What about the hit to our wallets? Remember when the con artists who rammed ObamaCare down our throats were telling us it would make health insurance more affordable?

This is a moment of existential crisis for the Republicans, who would be out of their minds to give the Democrats bipartisan cover for escaping from their own disastrous health-care bill. It's a slam-dunk political opportunity that should cost the Democrats seats in Congress merely for suggesting it. If the GOP cannot capitalize on this opportunity, while sticking firmly to their principles and calling for the full repeal of ObamaCare, its viability as an opposition party is called into question.

"If Congress exempts itself from ObamaCare, it must give every American the right to have the same exemption," said Newt Gingrich. "If this is going to be a disaster - which I think it's going to be - we ought to enjoy it together with our constituents," said Senator Richard Burr (R-NC). They're both right. Hopefully the GOP leadership is listening to them.
