All You Need Is 1,000 Points

A man dies and is met at the gates of Heaven by St. Peter.

“You’ll need 1,000 points to be admitted,” St. Peter told him.  “The charity and goodness of your life will determine your points.”

The man replied, “I went to Confession every month and to Mass every Sunday.”

St. Peter said, “That will be 50 points.”

“And I contributed to my parish and gave to charities as generously as I could.”

St. Peter said, “That’s wonderful!  That’s another 25 points.”

The man started to feel desperate, realizing he had only 75 points.  “I prayed the rosary daily, and I was a devoted Companion of St. Anthony,” he continued.

“Oh yes, that’s excellent!” St. Peter responded.  “Another 25 points.”

By now the man was frantic.  “You know,” he sighed, “at this rate, the only way I’ll get into Heaven is by the grace of God.”

St. Peter smiled broadly.  “That’s 900 points!  Welcome to Heaven.”
