Road Trip Through Medieval Ireland

A few weeks ago I hit the road with a recorder taking in some of the best medieval sites in Ireland. The show takes in 1000 years of Irish history in one day-trip. Starting in around the year 600 in the monastery Glendalough at sunrise before driving through the Wicklow mountains to Kilkenny, I visited many places mentioned in the podcast. The trip finished off in the 16th century in a spot off the beaten track, but a real forgotten gem, Kilcooley Abbey.     Listen to my podcast of this trip at Irish History Podcast on iTunes.

You can join me on a similar trip on Saturday June 6th (2015). Mail booking@Irishhistorytours.ie to book your spot on what will be a unique trip for up to 30 people at a cost of only 60 Euros.

We depart by 8am to avoid the Dublin traffic.
We turn west and visit Glendalough with its ruins of an abbey, round tower, graveyards, and seven churches, visitor center.  Lots of history to discuss here as we walk the ruins by the lake.
We drive south through the beautiful Wicklow Mountains along the coast.
We continue west to Kilkenny with its excellent medieval buildings, castle, towers, and graveyard which contains historic people we will chat about.
We take back country roads to visit Kilcooley Abbey which is isolated and which very few people know about.  We most likely will have the ruins to explore on our own.
We head back to Dublin in the early evening.
