Today, we
celebrate the Feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius.
As you know,
they were Greek brothers sent by the Byzantine emperor with the blessing of the
Patriarch of Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey) to preach to the Slavs
(origin of the word “slaves”) of Moravia (which is now modern Czech Republic
and parts of Bulgaria and Bosnia).
As you also
know, Vikings loved to capture Slavs and sell them to the Muslims who used them
as slaves for work, sex, and war.
Nothing speaks
to the Slavic soul like Vodka.
“Vodka has
humility. Colorless, tasteless, odorless, it will graciously assume the
characteristics of whatever it is mixed with.”
~ Mr. Boston

Beer
The territory of Moravia is now principally in the Czech Republic, so you can
also drink a Czech pilsener (pilsner) beer which is named for the city of
Pilsen.
Pilsner beers are yellow-colored, pale lagers with a distinct hop flavor and
aroma.
Czech pilsners use Saaz hops which are spicier and more floral.
Pilsner Urquell is the original Czech pilsner.
Toast
The traditional Slavic toast for this feast is “Glory be to Jesus Christ!”
The response is “Glory forever!”
