A Plenary Indulgence is granted to Christ's faithful who make a pilgrimage to the Saint John Paul II National Shrine once a year on a day that individual member is free to choose.

Pilgrims must be truly penitent and be in the state of grace and must have a complete detachment from sin, even venial sin. Pilgrims must pray before the relics of St. John Paul II in the Luminous Mysteries Chapel the Lord's Prayer and the Hail Mary,  recite the Creed, and pray for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.  Pilgrims must confess their sins and receive Holy Eucharist within 20 days before/after the pilgrimage visit.
