I came from a wealthy family in Milan, Italy and was well educated.
I was elected as bishop of Milan before I was even baptized.
In one week, I was baptized, became a priest, and became a bishop.
I hit the books and educated myself in theology.
I gave sermons that inspired many including Augustine.
I gave sermons that showed the links between the Old Testament and the New Testament.
I shocked people who watched me read books without reading aloud or at least moving my lips as was the custom of the day.
I told the Roman Emperor Theodosias in Constantinople that he could not come to church until he did public penance for slaughtering thousands of women and children in a region in rebellion.
I allowed the Roman Emperor Theodosias back to church after he complied with my orders and did public penance.
I died quietly on April 4, 397, after serving as bishop in Milan for nearly twenty-three years.
Because of my sermons and writings, I am a Doctor of the Catholic Church.
I am now a saint, and my feast day is December 7.
I am Saint Ambrose.
