Democrats & Gutless Republicans Are Destroying Our Country

Mark Levin was furious tonight over the destruction of this country by Democrats like Obama, Pelosi, and Reid and gutless Republicans who are not only complicit, but even now are still afraid to speak out about it:

You should view these politicians with the deepest contempt you can possibly imagine. What they are doing to this country, what they are doing to our finances – there is not a criminal in any federal prison, state prison, city or county jail, with respect to financial crimes of any sort who collectively could have done the kind of damage that Barack Obama and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and YES, willing, timid, gutless Republicans have done to this country! To your future, to your children and your grandchildren! What they are doing is with malice and with forethought….

What the hell does the Democrat party stand for today? The destruction of America? And what the hell does the Republican party stand for today? To sit there with their thumbs in their mouths while it’s going on?

Any politician with an ounce of common sense should be getting on any soap box imaginable and screaming from the top of their lungs that these policies are destroying America!

It's All About Me

The president makes the pope’s resignation all about him

When I saw this, I thought it was a parody of a presidential statement:

“On behalf of Americans everywhere, Michelle and I wish to extend our appreciation and prayers to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. Michelle and I warmly remember our meeting with the Holy Father in 2009, and I have appreciated our work together over these last four years. The Church plays a critical role in the United States and the world, and I wish the best to those who will soon gather to choose His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI’s successor.”

But no, that’s the real thing. To complete the theme, I’m surprised it did not end, “But enough about me, Your Holiness, what do you think of my agenda?”

What is important about the pope and his resignation is not, alas, that Obama met with him. And I am puzzled by the use of the phrase “our work together over these four years.” Did Obama reduce the number of abortions in the United States? No, that can’t be it. Did he reduce poverty here in the United States? Tragically not.

You’d think the pope was head of a secular charity (“The Church plays a critical role in the United States and the world”) rather than the spiritual head of a worldwide religion.

Compare the statement to that of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.):

“Today Pope Benedict XVI displayed the qualities of an excellent leader and a true man of God by putting the interests of the Vatican and the Catholic Church over his own papacy. Since becoming Pope in 2005, Pope Benedict XVI has served the Church honorably, particularly through his work promoting charity across the globe. I wish him well in the future and, as a Catholic, I thank him for his service to God and the Church. I also look with optimism toward the future of the Catholic Church as it prepares to welcome a new leader and as it continues to spread God’s message of faith, hope and love to all the corners of the world.”

The president isn’t a Catholic, but his antiseptic, self-centered statement is really a shoddy effort.

This week we had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Taylor Marshall, Chancellor of the College of Saints John Fisher & Thomas More and author of the famous Catholic blog Canterbury Tales. Dr. Marshall does an outstanding job with his blog, sharing the fascinating stories of Catholic saints while informing readers on the finer points of Church teachings. He is steadfastly loyal to both the teachings of Rome and his favorite whiskeys. He was gracious enough to answer a few of our questions.

Can you share your thoughts on virtuous drinking?
Virtuous drinking involves male friendship, plain and simple. It’s usually a time for men to remove themselves from the company of women that they love and sit together around a fire pit, in the darkness, or on the back porch. Some of the most meaningful conversations that I have had with my father, my brother, and my friends have been over a Scotch. Real relationships are forged. It’s a beautiful thing.

Yes, beer can work. But whisky raises it to another level. To compare it to the Latin Mass, whisky is the extraordinary form of alcohol.

What is your favorite whiskey?

I’m a Scotch man, so please allow me to drop the ‘e’ in whiskey. When it comes to scotch, I like Dalwhinnie 15 year and Oban. My favorite is probably Glenmorangie 21 year. A priest friend of mine tries to push me toward the Islay scotches, but unless we’re in an extremely manly context (like a cold winter expedition or an elk hunt), I just can’t get into them. A friend of mine recently introduced me to Redbreast 12 year Irish whiskey and I’m really digging that. It’s a great break from Scotch. Something different.

Now if I’m not in a relaxed mode, I’ll drink something cheaper. Understand that I have six children. If they are running around and jumping on my lap or whatever, I cannot really get in the mental state to enjoy a nice whisky. In this situation, I’ll just drink a blended scotch. I might get mocked on this, but I like Chivas blended 12 year in this context.

There are some interesting micro-stills producing good stuff in America. I recently sampled Garrison Brothers Texas Bourbon Whiskey. Pretty awesome. I’m excited about this movement.
