Nov 5: Happy Guy Fawkes Day - What a Guy!

How Guy Fawkes Inadvertently Created The Word 'Guy'
Four hundred and eight years ago, a Catholic plot to blow up the British Houses of Lords and with it the King of England failed completely.
Although a non-event, the attempted bombing had a huge legacy. There was the historical impact, with King James I using it as an excuse to crack down on England's non-conforming Catholics and lay the foundations of a unified British state. There was the cultural impact, with Nov. 5 celebrated ever since with fires and fireworks as Bonfire Night or, in tribute to the plotter caught red-handed, as Guy Fawkes Night. There is a significant linguistic legacy too: the creation of the word "guy."
The word "guy," as used today to indicate a "man, fellow, person, individual, creature," didn't exist in 1605. In fact, even the name Guy, a name with Norman French origins given to poor Guy Fawkes by his parents in 1570, was relatively rare in England at the time, according to the book "Remember, Remember" by James Sharpe — "Guy" himself had actually given up the name in 1603 and went by the name "Guido" instead.
With the arrest of Guy Fawkes shortly after midnight Nov. 5, 1605 (a tip-off to a Catholic member of parliament led to an inspection of the cellars under parliament), however, it soon became an infamous name.
Fawkes originally gave his captors the name "John Johnson," but after a couple of days of horrific torture in the Tower of London, he gave himself and his co-conspirators up. He was hanged, drawn, and quartered, with his remains sent to the four corners of the kingdom as a warning to future plotters.
What's more, Nov. 5 was immediately established as a day of celebration, and while little is known about how exactly it was celebrated then, it gradually evolved into a nationalistic night of fireworks and bonfires, with effigies of Catholic figures such as Fawkes and even the Pope set alight.
Because of this tradition, the word "guy" began to be used in England to mean "effigy" and later came to be used in a pejorative sense to describe a man ("he's a bad guy") or a usually a "weirdly dressed person," according to Parliament's history of Guy Fawkes Night.
At some point it spread to the United States, where, perhaps due to the lack of context, it began to be used in a wide variety of ways, not all negative. That American English usage later returned to United Kingdom, where it became common to use it to mean "man" or "person."
Indeed, the evolution of the word continues today as people debate whether you can call a group that includes females "guys" or even if you can call an individual woman a "guy."
While the word "guy" has changed, so has the reputation of Guy Fawkes, from a minor player in a Catholic plot, to a symbol of terrorism, to a strange figure in a British celebration, to — following the iconic portrayal of a futuristic Guy Fawkes in the comic book "V For Vendetta" —  a global symbol of protest and anonymity.

As It Was Told - Did You Know This About Iraq?

AS IT WAS TOLD IN THE BIBLE ...

READ DOWN TO THE GREEN
THEN GO TO THE BIBLE ...

Read all of this one, it is very interesting!!

Near the bottom--the part highlighted
in green--will give you GOOSE BUMPS!!!

You don't want to miss this! ((*_*) )

VERY INTERESTING-

1. The Garden of Eden was in
Iraq .

2. Mesopotamia, which is now
Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!

3. Noah built the ark in
Iraq ...

4. The Tower of Babel was in
Iraq ..

5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern
Iraq ...

6. Isaac's wife Rebekah is from Nahor, which is in
Iraq ...
7. Jacob met Rachel in
Iraq .

8. Jonah preached in Nineveh - which is in
Iraq ...

9. Assyria, which is in
Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel .

10. The Prophet Amos cried out in
Iraq ..

11 Babylon, which is in
Iraq , destroyed Jerusalem ..

12. Daniel was in the lion's den in
Iraq .

13. The three Hebrew children
were in the fire in Iraq.
(Jesus was there with them as the 4th person in the Fiery Furnace!).

14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the 'writing on the wall' in
Iraq .

15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into

18. Peter preached in
Iraq ..

19. The 'Empire of Man' described in Revelation is called Babylon--which was a city in
Iraq.
And you have probably seen this one:

Israel is the nation most often
mentioned in the Bible.

But do you know which nation is second?

It is modern-day IRAQ !

However,
Iraq is not the name used in the Bible.

The names used in the Bible are Babylon ,
Land of Shinar , and Mesopotamia ...
The word Mesopotamia means
between the two rivers, more exactly
between the Tigris & Euphrates Rivers .

The name
Iraq means country with deep roots.

Indeed
Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible.

No other nation, except Israel ,
has more history and prophecy associated
with it than
Iraq ..

And also, this is something to think about:

Since America is
typically represented by an
EAGLE.
Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages
...

The following verse is from the Koran,
(the Islamic Bible)
Koran (9:11 ) --- "For it is written ...
that a son of Arabia would awaken
a fearsome Eagle..
The wrath of the Eagle would be felt
throughout the lands of Allah and lo,
while some of the people trembled in despair
still more rejoiced;
for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah
And there was peace".

(Note the verse number!)  Hmmmmmmm?!

I BETTER NOT HEAR OF ANYONE BREAKING THIS ONE OR SEE IT DELETED.

This is a ribbon for soldiers still fighting in
Iraq .

Pass it on to everyone and pray.

Do not break this chain.

Send this to 13 people in the next 15 minutes.

Go!

Greener Pastures

"When God takes someone from us, it is always for a good reason.

When the sheep have grazed and thinned the grass in the lower regions, the shepherd will take a little lamb in his arms, carry it up the mountain where the grass is green, lay it down, and soon the other sheep will follow. Every now and then our Lord takes a lamb from the parched field of a family up to those Heavenly Green Pastures, that the rest of the family may keep their eyes on their true home and follow through."

Under Obamacare, It's Cheaper to Be Divorced Than Married

Why are you still married?  Obama wants you to get a divorce . . .

Many couples buying insurance through the Obamacare exchanges will face huge premium increases if they choose to get married, according to a tool created by the Kaiser Family Foundation. That’s because jointly they’ll lose substantial tax credits or subsidies they were eligible for individually.

The Kaiser calculator reveals that a married couple of 64-year-olds earning a combined $62,081 a year (each earning the same salary) would pay a premium of $15,211 for a “silver” plan under Obamacare. That amounts to more than a quarter of their income (and an even larger portion after taxes). If they chose not to marry (or to get divorced if they were already married), however, they’d pay only $5,360 combined for the same coverage. That’s a marriage penalty (or divorce incentive) of nearly $10,000 a year.

The story isn’t much better for a couple of 40-year-olds, one earning $70,000 a year and the other earning $23,000 a year. If married with two children, they would pay a premium of $9,700. If they chose not to marry (or to get divorced), however, they’d pay only $3,700 combined for the same coverage. That’s a marriage penalty (or divorce incentive) of $6,000 a year. By the time their children were 18, that would add up to well over $100,000 they could have saved to send them to college. (Tom Blumer at PJ Media highlighted similarly troubling scenarios before Kaiser adjusted its calculator.)

It was Robert Rector at the Heritage Foundation who first pointed out the “wedding tax” in Obamacare. That was back in January 2010 before the bill became law. Rector warned that “the bill’s anti-marriage penalties occur because of the income counting and benefit structure rules of the bill. If a two-earner couple is married, the bill counts their income jointly; since the joint income will be higher, a married couple’s health care subsidies would be lower.”
Nearly four years later as Americans log on to the exchange websites to sign up for Obamacare, many couples are discovering this unpleasant consequence for the first time. This week Al Jazeera talked to an Obamacare “navigator” in Colorado who said so far “no one” she’d talked to had signed up for coverage. “Thus far everybody has taken a look at the rates and they've walked out the door,” she said. “There's sticker shock. They just can't afford it.”
It’s a perverse law that would take such a sticker-shocked couple and tell them they could save $5,000, $7,000, even upward of $10,000 a year if they simply got divorced. At a time when nearly two in five children nationwide are born to parents who are not married to each other, this is no small problem.

This anti-marriage, pro-divorce provision needs to be changed before January 1. It should never go into effect.

Will-o'-the-wisp

Will-o'-the-Wisp is the most common English designation for a family of fairy-beings characterized by their fiery appearance and their tendency to lead nighttime wayfarers astray. The term wisp refers to a twist of straw, used as a torch. Other names for these apparitions include Hobby-Lantern, Jack-o'-Lantern, Jenny-Burnt-Tale, Kitty-Candlestick, Peg-a-Lantern, and many more.

November 2:  All Souls’ Day

The Church has encouraged prayer for the dead from the earliest times as an act of Christian charity. "If we had no care for the dead," Augustine noted, "we would not be in the habit of praying for them." Yet pre-Christian rites for the deceased retained such a strong hold on the superstitious imagination that a liturgical commemoration was not observed until the early Middle Ages, when monastic communities began to mark an annual day of prayer for the departed members.

In the middle of the 11th century, St. Odilo, abbot of Cluny (France), decreed that all Cluniac monasteries offer special prayers and sing the Office for the Dead on November 2, the day after the feast of All Saints. The custom spread from Cluny and was finally adopted throughout the Roman Church.

The theological underpinning of the feast is the acknowledgment of human frailty. Since few people achieve perfection in this life but, rather, go to the grave still scarred with traces of sinfulness, some period of purification seems necessary before a soul comes face-to-face with God. The Council of Trent affirmed this purgatory state and insisted that the prayers of the living can speed the process of purification.

Superstition easily clung to the observance. Medieval popular belief held that the souls in purgatory could appear on this day in the form of witches, toads or will-o’-the-wisps. Graveside food offerings supposedly eased the rest of the dead.

Observances of a more religious nature have survived. These include public processions or private visits to cemeteries and decorating graves with flowers and lights. This feast is observed with great fervor in Mexico.

I Am Still Near

Death has taken me from this world, and through we are apart, I am still near.
All that we meant to each other remains true, in trust and faith, have no fear.

Keep me always close to your heart!
For I leave with you what no one can steal, a treasure chest of precious, happy memories;
the tender, love-filled moments we shared, as well as the challenging times that brought us closer together.

When you are in need, speak to me, call my name.
I will come to you with wisdom and light to fill your soul with peace, and to guide you in the pathways that lead to life forever with our Loving God.

I also offer you this sacred promise: when I am home in God’s embrace, whenever you call on me, I will still be present to you,

for neither death nor grave can break the bonds of love that we on earth once knew.
