Sad Nuns

Looks like those radical leftist nuns got off their bus and will now have a vacation at an ultra-expensive hotel in Orlando.
It must be nice to get money from rich socialists like George Soros.

From Father Z’s blog . . .

The nuns aren’t happy.

That is to say the LCWR nuns aren’t happy.  All the traditional sisters are happy.

It seems that the LCWR’s Vatican Overlord is going to attend the whole of the LCWR meeting at the swanky Royale Caribe hotel in Orlando… near Disneyworld.
Archbp. Sartain of Seattle was appointed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to keep his eyes on the doings of the sisters.

You will recall that the CDF did a doctrinal investigation of the LCWR and found it lacking.  Thus, the Holy See’s “hostile takeover”.
Fishwrap (aka National Schismatic Reporter) is saying that a former LCWR co-mentor, Sr. Theresa Kane (about whom I wrote just the other day – HERE – because she was unhappy with Pope Francis) has unhappy things to say about Archbp. Sartain’s presence at their confab at the swanky Royale Caribe.

One former LCWR president said its members are preparing for this year’s assembly with an “ominous feeling.”
“We’re going into this assembly knowing that there’s a cloud over our head and that we are being investigated and they are going to be monitoring us,” said Mercy Sr. Theresa Kane, who served as LCWR president from 1979 to 1980.

Sartain, Kane said, is “showing up, and he’s staying for the entire assembly. It’s monitoring. There’s a cloud … and we’re living through it.”  (Oh, horrors!)

Turn that frown upside down, Sister!  When heresy gives you Sartain, make lemonade!

Jesus is merciful, but He is not stupid

Great letter from Cardinal George of Chicago to a bunch of heretics (especially the last two paragraphs) . . .

AN OPEN RESPONSE TO AN OPEN LETTER
JULY 29. 2013
On Monday, July 29, in the Chicago Tribune, a group of Catholics published an open letter addressed to me and to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). They accused the Church of turning her back on the poor. This accusation follows a decision by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) to include support for “same-sex marriage” as part of their political agenda. The CCHD cannot fund groups that support this goal.

Donors to the CCHD give to this anti-poverty organization with the understanding that their money will be passed on to organizations that respect the teachings of the Catholic faith. Organizations that apply for funds do so agreeing to this condition.
On May 23, the ICIRR board broke faith with its member organizations when it publicly supported so called “same-sex marriage.” For its own political advantage, it introduced a matter extraneous to its own purpose and betrayed its own members, who were not consulted.
The CCHD had no choice but to respect the unilateral decision of the ICIRR board that effectively cut off funding from groups that remain affiliated with ICIRR. Without betraying its donors or the Catholic faith, the Catholic Church’s long-standing work for immigrant groups and for immigration reform remains intact. This record speaks for itself and is well known. It is carried locally by Priests for Justice for Immigrants and by Sisters and Brothers of Immigrants, along with very many lay Catholics, in collaboration with the Archdiocesan Office for Immigrant Affairs and Immigration Education, led by Elena Segura with my complete support.
It is intellectually and morally dishonest to use the witness of the Church’s concern for the poor as an excuse to attack the Church’s teaching on the nature of marriage.  Four weeks ago, Pope Francis wrote: “…marriage should be a stable union of man and woman…this union is born of their love, as a sign and presence of God’s own love, and of the acknowledgement and acceptance of the goodness of sexual differentiation, whereby spouses can become one flesh and are enabled to give birth to a new life.” In other words, when it comes to marriage and family life, men and women are not interchangeable. The whole civilized world knows that.
Those who signed the open letter in the Tribune proclaimed their adherence to the Catholic faith even as they cynically called upon others to reject the Church’s bishops. The Church is no one’s private club; she is the Body of Christ, who tells us he is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Because the signers of the letters are Catholic, they know that in a few years, like each of us, they will stand before this same Christ to give an account of their stewardship. Jesus is merciful, but he is not stupid; he knows the difference between right and wrong. Manipulating both immigrants and the Church for political advantage is wrong.

Archbishop of Chicago

Another Reason Why Senator John McCain Needs To Retire

Memo to John McCain:  So, tell me why we want to legalize a group that votes 80% for Democrats in every election going back to Richard Nixon?

If it was the blue collar voters who sat out the last election, why aren’t the Republicans trying to appeal to them instead?  If Chris Christie runs in 2016, the blue collar workers may sit that one out too while Hillary becomes the next president.

The ‘Straight Talk Express’ is back: McCain on his fears about the future of the GOP
By Jeff Zeleny and Jordyn Phelps

Sen. John McCain has a strong warning for Republicans: Falter on immigration reform and the party will lose in 2016.

“If we fail on immigration reform, it won't matter who our nominee is because of the polarization of the Hispanic vote,” McCain, R-Ariz., tells “The Fine Print.” “Now that's not why I'm for immigration reform but it certainly is one of the consequences of a failure.”

McCain, who has simultaneously emerged as a friend to the White House and a critic of some of the new GOP firebrands on Capitol Hill, says he’s hopeful that the August congressional recess will bring lawmakers back to Washington “with at least a willingness to move forward” on a course to overhaul the nation's immigration system.

“Members are back interacting with their constituents,” McCain says of the upcoming recess. “And we see a coalition of Evangelicals, of the Catholic Church, of business, of labor, of small business, high tech, across the board, support the likes of which we, I've never seen for one specific part of legislation.”

Bad Religion: How We Became A Nation Of Heritics

A summary of the book  . . .

Bad Religion: How We Became A Nation Of Heretics by Ross Douthat

1950s:
-          Post-war confidence; Protestant churches grow; Catholic Churches and Schools grow at a rapid pace
-          Reinhold Niebuhr’s writings strengthen Protestant beliefs and church attendance.
-          Billy Graham leads revivals attended by thousands.
-          Bishop Fulton Sheen has a prime-time religious show.
-          Martin Luther King, Jr. becomes a religious and moral leader for blacks and whites.
-          Popular movies with major stars about Catholics: Going My Way, Bells of Saint Mary’s, A Nun’s Story

1960s:
-          A Catholic is elected president of the USA.
-          The Pill - sexual revolution arrives with contraception.
-          The Catholic president is assassinated.   Rumors spread about his infidelities.
-          Pope Paul VI’s doctrine on human sexuality ridiculed widely for its “old fashioned” pronouncements.
-          Starting in 1965, attendance at major churches start to shrink.
-          Mainline Protestant denominations drift to the left; Evangelicals drift to the right; Catholics are split.
-          Sexual ethics shift to condone extramarital sex and abortion.
-          In 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. is killed sparking riots and loss of faith in peaceful Christian practices.
-          Major protests against the Vietnam War and conventional morals by progressives (hippies).
-          Protestant denominations shift from the supernatural and embrace Modernism.
-          Episcopal Bishop James Pike denies Christ’s divinity, renounces Christian morality, and consults psychics.

1970s:
-          Almost every denomination except Catholics formally accept some form of birth control and abortion.
-          Studies of politics and social justice replaced studies of theology in seminaries.
-          “Inclusion and Diversity” were the excuses for negating Christianity’s truth and moral teachings.
-          Five years after Vatican II, progressive views dominated Catholic religious and theological training.
-          Catholic publications, training, seminars, associations, and bureaucracy become more liberal and political.
-          Catholic religious groups place greater emphasis on “social justice” now over preparing souls for heaven.
-          The pope’s ambassador (papal nuncio Jean Jadot) to the USA, a liberal’s liberal, recommends fellow leftist political activists for senior offices in the USA hierarchy.
-          Catholics stop attending weekly Mass and start leaving the Church in droves.
-          Only Protestant and Catholic churches that resisted the spirit of liberalism were still growing.

1980s:
-          Pope John Paul II becomes a rallying point in the fight against redefining Christianity.
-          Pope JPII fails in his efforts to change leftist theology in seminaries and most Catholic colleges.
-          Pope JPII started forming alliances with Evangelicals and some mainline Protestant intelligentsia.
-
1990s:
-          US Supreme Court votes in 1992 for nearly unlimited right to an abortion.
-          Catholics and Evangelicals find common cause to resist abortion, but mainline Protestant churches do not join or return to orthodoxy.
-          Sex-abuse scandals devastate the Catholic Church and its moral authority.
-          Secularism, Humanism, and Modernism grow rapidly with assistance from secular colleges, political parties, and mainstream leftist media.
-          Christian orthodoxy becomes a minority that is easily dismissed by the press and wider public.
-          Most newspapers stop publishing religious columns and forums.
-          The majority of the USA becomes secular, anti-religious, and progressively liberal.

Present Times – Four Heresies Continue to Increase While Christianity Continues to Decrease
-          First Heresy:  Jesus Seminars and “Quest for Historical Jesus” which offer simplistic versions of Jesus as a mystic, proto-feminist prophet but not a Savior (a form of Gnosticism).
-          Second Heresy:  Pray-and-Grow-Rich Theology of will power promoted by Kenneth Hagin and Joel Osteen; focus on joy, Easter, success, and being nice and ignore the Crucifixion, sin, suffering, and the need for redemption.
-          Third Heresy:  “God Within”; do what you like doing; prayer and charity are not important; focus on self; narcissism; “Eat, Pray, Love” search for self and finding happiness with myself without service to others.
-          Fourth Heresy:  Nationalism.  “Liberalism  (or Conservatism) is my religion.”  Theology replaced by politics.  It’s the government’s job to provide charity, not me directly.

How to renew Christianity in the USA
-          Bring your Christian faith to bear on debates in the public square about justice and the common good.  Don’t be afraid to preach what you practice.  Don’t be intimidated by secular progressives who dominate the public square of news, politics, and colleges.
-          Show allegiance to Christian principles over your political party.  Stop making politics your religion.
-          Promote traditional views of sexuality  and the importance of stable traditional marriage for the sake of children.
-          Orient yourself toward holiness through prayer and personal sanctity to perfect your soul; save your country by first saving yourself.

In
1952
President Truman
established one day a year as a
"National Day of Prayer."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In
1988
President Reagan
designated the
First Thursday in May of each year as
the National Day of Prayer.

In June
2007
(then)
Presidential
Candidate Barack Obama
declared that the USA
"Was no longer a
Christian nation."

This year
President Obama
canceled the
21st annual National Day
of Prayer ceremony
at the White
House under the ruse
Of "not wanting to offend anyone"

------------------------------------------------------------------------

BUT... on September 25, 2009
from 4 AM until 7 PM,
a National Day of Prayer
FOR THE MUSLIM RELIGION
was Held on Capitol Hill,
Beside the White House.
There were over 50,000 Muslims
in D.C. that day.

HE PRAYS WITH THE MUSLIMS!

I guess it Doesn't matter
if "Christians"
Are offended by this event -
We obviously
Don 't count as
"anyone" Anymore.

The direction this country is headed
should strike fear in the heart of every Christian,
especially knowing that the
Muslim religion believes that if Christians cannot be
converted, they should be annihilated.

What is Universalism?

What is Universalism?
The heresy of universalism teaches that everybody will be saved by God’s mercy and love so we don’t have to preach repentance and salvation of souls or such a thing as heaven and hell.

What is the Social Gospel?
This is a watered down version of Christianity which avoids talk of sin and salvation, repentance and redemption. The cross and resurrection are studiously avoided to portray a compassionate Jesus who lived among the poor and whose chief ministry was healing the sick, preaching against the rich, criticizing the religious hypocrites. The “social gospellers” are all “liberals” who forsake the true message of the gospel in favor of soup kitchen Christianity. They are all for giving people bread, but not the bread of heaven. They are all for helping the poor have a better life, but not concerned about eternal life.
The problem with those who promote the social gospel is not that they feed the poor, are activists for justice and are work for healing and reconciliation, but that they put these things before the primary message of the gospel which is the old, old story of a fallen humanity in need of forgiveness and a loving God who sends his own Son into enemy territory to seek and to save that which was lost. Those who follow a social gospel reduce the life and work of Jesus Christ to that of an inspired healer–a social worker and a pacifist activist. Usually their activism and concern for the poor is linked with a political ideology, a desire to make the world a better place and the heresy of universalism where will be saved by God’s mercy and love so we don’t have to preach repentance and salvation of souls or such a thing as heaven and hell.

From Standing On My Head

Hereos Then and Now

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Blessed Martyrs of Nowogródek.

I don’t remember ever hearing the story of how eleven of their Sisters died in 1943 in occupied Poland, executed by a Nazi firing squad.  Here is their story.
