Ventura Day

Did you know that the city of Ventura, California (and the Ventura Freeway) is actually named San Buenaventura?

Did you know that the name San Buenaventura comes from the nearby Mission San Buenaventura?

Did you know that San Buenaventura is Saint Bonaventure?

Did you know these facts about Saint Bonaventure:
    - born in 1221 in Italy
   -  a Franciscan friar
    - an Italian medieval scholastic theologian and philosopher who wrote many sermons, documents, and books
    -  the seventh Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor that he helped revitalize
wrote the Si Quaeris prayer in honor of St. Anthony that Franciscans sing every Tuesday
   -  also a Cardinal Bishop of Albano
    - died on July 15, 1274
    - canonized on 14 April 1482 by Pope Sixtus IV
    - declared a Doctor of the Church in the year 1588 by Pope Sixtus V
    - known as the "Seraphic Doctor" (Latin: Doctor Seraphicus)
    - honored each July 15
